Lakshman Yapa admits India urged for peace talks

Rejecting claims by the JVP Secretary, Tilvyn Silva, Minister of Mass Media, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, said that the though the powerful Indian defence delegation has urged the Sri Lankan government to enter into talks with the LTTE instead of waging war, they had not pressurized to stop the war. Speaking at a media briefing yesterday (June 25th), Minister Abeywardena said that there is no truth to Mr. Tilvyn Silva’s statement which said that the Indian defence delegation arrived in Sri Lanka to urge the government to stop the war.Noting that the government will re-establish democracy in the North after it's liberation, he added that the government is prepared for talks if the LTTE lays down its weapons.
