From Japan with Love

A donation from the Japanese-Sri Lanka Friendship Association in collaboration with the Oruwala Lions Club including wheelchairs, spectacles and sports items to be distributed among the needy schools of Matara district were handed over to the Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena Foundation at the Ministry Auditorium yesterday.

Addressing the media, Minister Lakshman Yapa expressed his gratitude on the special interest of Lion Dr. Lal Thilakarathne President of the Japan-Sri Lanka Friendship Association who organised the donation while working in the Japan for the last ten years.

Minister Yapa recalled the Japanese aid which has been received for various projects and said more than 60 per cent of foreign aid was from Japan. There have been many private donations too from Japan.

He said that two ambulances and one fire vehicle received by the above Association will be handed over to the President tomorrow for the use of the Army.

Minister Yapa highlighted the other services provided by Japanese-Sri Lanka Friendship Association President Dr. Lal Thilakarathne including the providing of sanitary facilities to remote schools in the Matara district.

The Minister thanked the Japanese representatives for their donation which has been provided to be handed over to needy persons of the country through the Lakshman Yapa Abeywardana Foundation.
